This is my first made from the ground up project for Unreal Engine 5 and perhaps, my biggest environment piece to date.
Taking advantage of Lumen, all ray tracing & global illumination effects are now being handled instantly, as opposed to waiting hours for a render to appear from Arnold/Vray etc.
I'm aware that Unreal Engine 5 also supports Nanite, which allows for unlimited polygon counts on screen, but I'll admit I will play around with that tech later. As this is a cartoony/stylized project, simple shapes wouldn't quite benefit from tossing millions of polygons at them.
After the blockout phase, I will begin to create the 1st stylized props and render them in engine. Once I have enough of them, then comes the actual environment design process.
By the way, why is the lake pink? Well, when I first imported the project into Unreal Engine 5, it automatically assigned that color. I thought it was hilarious so I kept it.
