I like medieval times best in Japanese history. The centralization of Yamato government ended and local power and various kinds of people played active parts. Emperors palace was neglected and thieves and monsters walked around Kyoto every night. It is a dynamic and diverse era in Japanese history. It is also the time when the most spiritual buddhism denominations were born as Jodo sect. This is a statue of Kuya, a buddhist monk who prepared the foundation of Kamakura buddhism in the late ancient era in Japan. 6 buddha statues represents 6 words of “Na mu A mi da bu tsu”. it is believed that if you say these 5 words, you can go to heaven in Kamakura buddhism.
