The Ghost of Kyiv

Panzerfire

On the fateful morning of February 24th, 2022, the Russian military launched its offensive against the Ukrainian Homeland. Under a barrage of missiles, artillery and the assault of the Russian Air Force, it seemed that Ukraine had only hours left. The Ukrainian Air Force took off knowing they were going up against a feared foe. A foe that had experienced pilots, more modern fighters and above all, far more planes than the Ukrainian could muster. And despite the odds, they rose to the challenge.

In the chaotic first hours of the war, rumors began to circulate that a single Mig-29M1 Fulcrum had taken down 6 enemy aircraft. He was quickly known thereafter as... "The Ghost of Kyiv".

As of today the Ghost of Kyiv remains unconfirmed. Some call it propaganda or meme invented by the Twitterverse while others continue to tell the tales (Imaginary or not) of the Ghost to provide a moral boost to the Ukrainian people.

One fact is true at the time of posting this image. The Ukrainian Air Force is still flying and is still fighting while the Russians have become stuck and in their frustration have started to shell cities indiscriminately.

Here's hoping that the war ends soon and with a free and independent Ukraine. Слава Україні!
