technocolorHigh Guardian Spice is an animated series created by Raye Rodriguez taking place in a fantasy world where you teenagers go to a school in order to become Guardians. The main four are from left to right: Rosemary, Sage, Parsley and Thyme. Rosemary is the adventure loving swordsman who wishes to be a guardian, searching for her mother who disappeared, leaving behind her sword. Sage is the shy mage and best friend of Rosemary who is struggling with "New" Magic since she has been taught only to use "Old" Magic and her parents forbid her to use "New" Magic. Parsley is a dwarven blacksmith, who seeks to become a guardian in order to get away from her family. Thyme is an elven archer who is often cold, cynical and distant from others, searching for a way to cure the rot in her forest. The show has been criticized for bad writing, bad acting, clumsy world building, mediocre animation, poor handling of mature subject matter such as trangenderism , unlikeable characters (except for a character with identity issues named Snapdragon (not shown here)), poor pacing, and not knowing its target audience, the show has the look and tone of a children's cartoon yet it contains bloody violence and gore and infrequent profanity.
For some reason the Crunchyroll Original: "High Guardian Spice" reminds me of my own projects Witch Campus and 666 Corps since all of them revolve heavily around the use of magic and the many types.
Now for the redesigns: aside from all of them being drawn in my art style, I gave Rosemary a shorter skirt for freedom of movement and chain mail underneath and messy hair. I gave her another sword and changed her mother's sword into a Scottish claymore. Sage has now a cute bow for her ponytail, lost her hat and is donning a princess style dress. Her magic wand now also doubles as a mace. I gave Parsley and Nordic apron dress, chainmail and changed her shorts into pants and I replaced her hammer with a Lucerne polehammer. Thyme is the most radical altered, her hair has been changed to an Egyptian braided hairstyle, I gave her a tiara, Greek linothorax cuirass, a cape kept on with a brooch and I gave her greaves and sandals.
