During ww2, demoralized German soldiers didn’t only face the allies. When German soldiers attempted to run away from their positions they had the possibility of running into German bandit hunters. These soldiers stayed behind the enemy lines, in search of runners, allied troops, and even civilians. Most people found were shot on sight without question. If anyone was this far behind the lines, they had no intention of turning back. Some of these soldiers were even placed around villages and concentration camps. Civilians attempted to flee into the surrounding area were never alone. The most notable units that participated in these actions were, the SS police, the 707th security division, the 315th order battalion, and the Slovak infantry regiment. The SS Dirlewanger brigade also assisted multiple times. (Hence the name black hunters :) )
