The 115th Strike Fighter Squadron Torpedo Aircraft has its origins in the United States Torpedo Aircraft Squadron, founded on 10 October 1942 as the 11th Torpedo Squadron.
This organization was reorganized into the 12th Attack Squadron A on 12 November 1946, the 115th Attack Squadron on 15 July 1948, and the current configuration, VFA-115, or 115th
Strike Fighter Squadron, with the introduction of the FA-18C (later E) attack aircraft on 30 September 1996.
At the time, the squadron was known as the "Eagles," but as a unique U.S. squadron, it was destroyed, at least on Earth, by the crash landing of a fighter spacecraft from an unknown space civilization and subsequent bombing by the Zentradi.
