The "SH-72FF Sea-Wing" was jointly developed by Sikorsky and Airbus Helicopters.
Sikorsky's SV-72 V-X variable geometry systems' variant, acquired during the development of the current VFH-10 AGAC Auroran VFH-10, allows the conventional Girodino to be operated as a fixed-wing aircraft by offsetting a pair of X-shaped rotor blades in the horizontal plane to form a V-shaped fixed wing.
For this test, test pilot Aurora Stering, 707th Evaluation and Test Squadron, and Capt. Marie Crystal, Tactical Armored Space Squadron, were loaned to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to continue test flights of the SH-72FF Sea-Wing anti-submarine patrol helicopter.
