The QBZ-95 is a bullpup service rifle chambered in 5.8x42mm, it was made as a replacement for the Type 81 and was placed into service in 1997. The rifle uses a short-stroke piston operating mechanism, it has unusual ergonomics such as the fire selector being placed in left side of the rifle's fore-end (fixed with the improved QBZ-95-1 variant)
