While it often uses its bioluminescence to illuminate areas and communicate with others of its kind it also uses it to attract prey before burning them alive and devouring them. They are sometimes considered pests since they can start fires. They tend to only be active for short bursts of time since they tend to burn a lot of energy when flying or making light. The lights they utilize produce a lot of heat.
