The Clair automatic pistol was an early semiautomatic pistol created by three brothers Benoît, Jean-Baptiste and Victor Clair in the year 1892. As the pistol was one of the earlies semi automatic pistols made it has some interesting feature that were and still are rather unique and rare like the fact that the pistol is a gas-operated pistol with an internal tubular 6 round magazine in its grip that is loaded from the front, also the pistol has a really weir sights.
The pistol was trialed against the Modèle 1892 revolver but unfortunately it was deemed too bulky and too complex to disassemble while also being unreliable. Recoil in the other hand was manageable as the pistol was chambered for the then standard issue 8mm French Ordnance (8x27mmR. lebel) revolver cartridges which is not know for being the most powerful nor effective cartridge.
Less than 20 were ever made and those ones are now lost to history, this gave some difficulty in modeling the pistol as images or technical drawings are spars and often nonsensical and difficult to read often even nonsensical, for example in the blueprint there is a strew that goes trough the magazine tube that would in reality make the magazine not function. But hopefully I was able to bring this obscure pistol to life in 3d.
