Some Yamato stuff I've been working on,featuring my favourite battlecarrier Flandre and some lore I wrote for her. A carrier built on a BBY-01 class hull with heavy modifications. Flandre was built as a sister to Yamato, Musashi, and Ginga, but her construction was paused when she was about halfway complete, due to Yamato's return to Earth. After being laid up, Flandre was then moved to the time fault to await her fate. It was then decided that Flandre would be the testbed for the new wave motion engine that would be used in the Andromeda class, which resulted in her being slightly longer and wider than the other members of the Yamato class. Flandre was also used to prototype deck parking and rapid launching, taking inspiration from the Garmillas Gaiperon class.
Flandre was lent to Garmillas as partial repayment and compensation for the seizure of the Wave Motion Gun ships by the Terran government in the face of Gatlantis's final assault on Earth. Flandre was given a hasty refit that saw her her open hanger plated over, several new medium caliber guns mounted, and increased command space. It was in this form that she was handed over to Garmillas.
About two years into her Garmilas career, Flandre and the fleet of carriers she was leading was devastated by a carrier strike that had managed to outflank the main Garmillas fleet. Flandre's superstructure and upper hanger were complete destroyed, and it was only though excellent damage control and the quick thinking of the third bridge's commanding officer that saw her live to fight another day. A repair ship conduced emergency repair to allow Flandre to return to Garmillas. When she returned, Flandre was immediately put into dry-dock while the Republican navy figured out what to do with her. In the end it was decided, on the advice of the EDF, to convert Flandre into a Galvades style battlecarrier. A large bulge was added to her hull for increased seagong stablity as well as additional protection. A not-insignificant amount of the lower hanger was gutted and converted to a flip mount for six of her eight new fourteen inch guns. A Gevlades style upper hanger was constructed upon the remains of the original upper hanger, and a Yamato styled bridge and VLS were fitted. Flandre's original secondary guns were mounted on the hanger, as well half of the imported twelve inch guns. Finally, a Dreadnought style fire control rangefinder was fitted to the top of the bridge. At the end of the loan term, and after over a decade of distinguished service for Garmillas, Flandre was returned to Earth, freshly painted in EDF colours. The EDF put Flandre though many trials to test the flip deck concept before she was put back into regular service. After over a decade and a half of service for the EDF, Flandre was decommissioned for the last time.Preperations were underway to scrap Flandre, when several pleas for preservation reached the EDF command's ears. To their surprise, much of them originated from Garmilas.
