The 911 GT3 RS 4.0 was the final evolution of the 997 GT3 and featured a 4.0 litre flat-six engine (the largest engine offered in a street-legal 911). The engine itself uses the crankshaft from the RSR with increased stroke dimensions (from 76.4 mm to 80.4 mm). This change increased the power output to 500ps (368 kW) at 8,250 rpm and 460 N⋅m (339 lb⋅ft) of torque at 5,750 rpm. Chassis development was influenced by the GT2 RS and uses parts from other RS 911s.
Reservation started on May 16, 2011 and was limited to 600 units worldwide, only 17 units are allocated to Japan. The body is made of carbon fibre composite (C-FRP) front hood and wings, and poly-carbonate rear window (including side) is adopted, which is 10 kg lighter than 911 GT3 RS. A reinforced clutch is standard equipment only with a 6-speed MT with a dedicated gear ratio. This is the first Porsche commercial vehicle to have canard on the front bumper.
