The YZF-R1 is a 4-stroke 998cc superbike launched by Yamaha Motor in 1998. As of 2015, it is a model for the Japanese overseas market.
In 1998, it was released as a super sports model that competes with the Honda CBR900RR. The engine and frame were developed with a completely new design to differentiate them from the FZR1000 and YZF1000R Thunder Ace, and since the FZR1000, Yamaha's litre-bike has adopted an upside-down front fork for the first time in a while. The weight of a medium-sized car, the highest class engine output at that time, and the sharp design became a hot topic, and it sparked the super sports trend.
The 8th generation of the YZF-R1 was announced on November 4, 2014. Both the engine and frame have undergone a full model change in anticipation of use in racing. Magnesium alloy is used for the wheels and engine cover, and titanium alloy is used for the muffler. The engine is a cross-plane type crankshaft engine, and the EU specification is 200ps, which is about 18ps higher than the previous model. There are many design changes, such as the abolition of the centre-up muffler and the ram air duct similar to the design of the MotoGP machine YZR-M1 .
In addition, the YZF-R1M equipped with front and rear Öhlins electronically controlled suspensions and lightweight cowls made of carbon material, and the YZF-R1S (North America only) that uses stainless mufflers, aluminum alloy wheels, and steel connecting rods to keep prices down.
