TSam-20While ThunderCats Roar has its strengths (e.g: competent action choreography, lovely background art and awesome voice cast), it has quite a few glaring flaws (the humor is juvenile and overdone most of the time, the writing is very shaky, and almost all the characters are reduced to hyperactive dollards and/or jerks that so happen to be at least half-decent at fighting). Also, the character designs are a little soft and rounded for my taste, and some elements feel a little off to me.
SO, I took it upon myself to retouch their designs a bit, acknowledging the direction and spirit of the show while adding my own personal flair to it.
Generally, I didn't mess with the aesthetics that much, except for making things a little sharper and more angular. As for the Cats themselves, I made them a little more cat-like, especially considering in all their other appearances over the years, they look more like fuzzy humans with big, pointy ears. Also, I gave them eight fingers instead of ten because cartoon. Costume wise, I still drew inspiration from the 80's show, but added a few elements of the 2011 show as well, paying tribute to both versions at the same time.
Lion-O is basically the same, but with a slightly more complex, two-tone costume like the one his 2011 counterpart donned.
Tygra has the toeless shoes of his 1985 and 2011 counterparts, and a more accurate version of his hairstyle from the former.
Snarf is hardly changed because Roar!Snarf is perfect.
Cheetara has elements from both her previous counterparts in her costume. And while she retains her tomboyish haircut, I added a big ol' ponytail to call back to her classic look.
Panthro is changed somewhat costume-wise, with a combination of his Roar costume and his 2011 costume.
WilyKat and WilyKit are the only ones who look CHIEFLY like their classic counterparts. I restored their classic hairstyles unto them. While WilyKit's 2011 hairstyle was cute on its own merit, nothing to me would beat the majesty of her glorious 80's onion hairdo.
