The X-8 was designed with a small and powerful computerized scope mounted on it's side, similar to how the DL-44's is and possesses a silent mode. The pistol has been used since the Clone Wars, mostly by smugglers and bounty hunters, such as C-21 Highsinger and Latts Razzi. By the Galactic Civil War, one of the most well known users of this gun was Han Solo's best friend and fellow Rebellion General, Lando Calrissian. He carried the weapon in a holster slung over his shoulder.
