The Panzerritter II is the second mass-production unit of Funf Lichter. It is the third that entered into military service by the Eurasian Alliance after the Cheval Mk. II.
The successes and failures from the Panzerritter I established Funf Lichter’s goals for the next project. By taking the improvements from the Volkerpferd and Polizeiritter variants and applying some new ideas, the conglomerate completed the respectably named Panzerritter Mk. II.
While the Cheval Mk. II’s primary merit was its speed and maneuverability, the PzRt II focused on protection and firepower. Extra armor protected nearly all critical joints vulnerable on the first model, and other systems were installed to operate in a larger variety of battlefield conditions. Engineers not only replaced the AMX-8 Engine with the quieter, more powerful AMX-10 but also used Prinzregen Composite Armor, making it as protective as older composite armor types but five times lighter. Despite the weight reduction, the additional plates and armaments make it heavier and slightly slower.
The extra weight comes from adding the Autokanone-2 into its armament. Unlike the IR ADR, which focus on a high rate of fire, the AK-2 focuses on power and range. Its 50mm rounds can take out even slow-moving aircraft from a distance, while the large bayonet underneath can cut through tank armor or other mecha in close combat. Some units are also equipped with a Kampfschild, a combat shield for defense against artillery bombardment and direct tank fire, as well as crowd control.
The Panzerritter II remained a mainstream unit for the states within Central/Eastern Europe and Asian countries of the EA, where the Union's territories bordered the EA. They chose the PzRt II for a proposed turtle strategy, serving as the first line of defense while slowly creeping into Union-occupied lands. This doctrine would remain in place, even after the introduction of new models and the chaos within Union territories caused by Revenant.
