The creation of a talisman requires special ink that is unique to the caster. This ensures that the order given in the talisman is linked to the caster, acting as a magical signature of sorts. It is thus possible to trace the talisman to the caster if the ingredient properties of the ink can be determined. For this reason, many casters are protective of their own ink formulas, often gathering their own ingredients and choosing to brew their own ink themselves. If casters lack the equipment to brew their ink themselves, they may seek out a trusted apothecary with brewing instructions. Often, the apothecary's ink is then modified by the caster to their satisfaction.
The practice of talismans is believed to have been brought over by refugees from the Eastern Lands, who were fleeing persecution. The making of talismans have since been adapted to the materials and language of the Last Continent. This practice has an unfortunate reputation due to the secretive nature of its users, often favored by spies and assassins.
