Ness and Lucas

This was originally a birthday present for a friend who loved Ness and Lucas. This was my second time using Photoshop, and I was finally getting the hang of my old shading technique I was desperately trying to recreate on digital medium. When I first made it, I had no clue how to make backgrounds (I also had no idea what I was doing while shading). So, the original pic had just a picture of a park as a background. I hated it cause it made the art look bad, so I edited it yesterday completely removing the background with Sai. Then combining different brushes to create a new background on Photoshop CS3. Then I added lighting and other effects with Sai.

I always tell people that backgrounds are the way to go to improve your art quality. Haha, that is extremely true with this picture!
