30x90mmRB Type A Render

This cartridge (and the gun it is, or I guess was fired from) interested me so I drew up a model of it in Solidworks and made a cool looking render of it.
Now for lots of random info in no particular order.

30x90mmRB is what German MK108 (MaschinenKanone 108) cannons are chambered in. These cannon were used in many Luftwaffe aircraft in WWII. They were relatively low velocity, but they were very effective.

30 mm (or 3 cm) is the caliber, while 90 mm designates how long the casing is. The RB means the casing uses a rebated base, something useful in advanced primer ignition guns such as the MK108.

The Type A round (or 3 cm Minengeschoss Übung ohne Zerleger, as the Germans called it) was a target practice cartridge. The shell had a filling of tar mixed with sand (opposed to explosives) to give it a realistic weight in flight, and the fuze was a dummy made of a zinc alloy.

In the casing right in front of the flash hole is supposed to sit a cloth bag filled with very fine powder, which would ignite before the main powder charge composed of less fine powder did.

The internal band that sits inside the shell is an aluminium support that keeps the shell from being crushed by the driving band as it hits the rifling of the MK108's bore.

These 'mine' shells were made of stamped, rolled steel, as opposed to machined steel, giving them thinner but strong walls and a larger internal capacity for carrying explosives.

Materials:
Fuze - zinc
Shell - steel, I think painted on the outside
Internal support band - aluminum
Driving band - copper
Casing - steel, lacquered on the outside

Rendered with Solidworks.
