What's the summer season without a nostalgic trip back to Adventure Island?
This piece recreates the classic NES box art of a game that was once considered a simple Mario clone. Adv. Island (or Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima (高橋名人の冒険島) in Japan) spawned many remarkable and challenging sequels and is the non-SEGA counterpart to the popular Wonder Boy franchise.
Another in a long line of lost game franchises, it was refreshing to see Hudson Soft port some of these titles to the Nintendo Virtual Console.
My favorite Adv. Island game remains to be Super Adventure Island 2, which borrows greatly from the RPG style of Wonder Boy, but Nintendo fans found it reminiscent of Zelda 2.
