Nelson Class 1943 DGD Optimum

Tzoli

Somewhat later in late Summer, early Autumn 1943 DGD (Director of Gunnery Division) offered an optimum battery refit, which included ten twin 4,5" guns in BD mounts to replace the existing 6" and 4,7" armament but could accept 4" gun if the BDs were not available in time. DGD also desired a four corner arrangement of the HA/LA directors (Not sure which HACS, Mark IV,V or VI) which suggests placing them on the where originally the 6" DCTs were located at. Close range AA would consist of 9 Quadruple or Octuple mountings and 50-60 Oerlikon barrels. HMS Rodney should also have the long-deferred additional deck armour forward which only installed on her sister Nelson. From this data I've made this drawing. The position of the aft HACS Mark VI's meant relocating the Pom-Poms of which I've put on the stern, while the extra mounts were placed in the previous location of the 4,7" AA guns. Oerlikon wise I've chosen a 1/3rd - 2/3rd mix of twin and single Oerlikons for a 50 barrels number.
