TzoliNow this proposal is a weird one. Norman Friedman's description is not clear about the AA armament and their layout of this version. He states that the two twin 5,25" mounts per side was DGD's personal preference but then the next section tells that the old 4,7" single guns either be left alone (producing a mixed AA battery layout) or be replaced by two twins each side. This drawing shows the first, mixed variant with Mark IV HACS and a reduced Oerlikon amount of 6 twin and 15 single mounts.
As stated above the second drawing shows the uniform 5,25" armed version, replacing the two forward pair of 6" turrets and the first and aft pair of 4,7" guns with a total of 8 twin 5,25" guns. It was described that this layout creates a desired four-cornered ship. Other aspects remained the same.
In the 2nd proposal DGD offered 8 twin 5,25" turrets served by 4 Mark VI HACS with the new Type 275 radars in a Four-Corner arrangement. Light AA would be strengthened by 3 more Octuple Pom-Pom mounts for a total of 9. Additional Oerlikons was 24 in Nelson and 18 in Rodney, each case included 4 twin ones.
The 3rd variant is essentially identical to the previous 2nd one but the 5,25" twin turrets got replaced by 4,5" ones. DNC was proposed this alteration because it had issues with the weight of 8 twin 5,25" turrets.
The 4th DGD proposal was again an economical sorta minimal AA refit proposal. Instead of replacing all the 6" and 4,7" with whatever AA gun was proposed, this time only the forward 4,7" ones to be replaced by 4" twins and the aft ones as well as the 3rd pair of 6" turrets might be replaced by Octuple Pom-Pom mounts. The text is not clear if the remaining 6" turrets to be retained or removed altogether. HACS wise I've chosen the Mark VI with Type 275 radars because at this time this was the desired AA control suite.
