My submission for @urzaiweekblog day 3: BittersweetContext and personal thoughts below the cut
The submission is depicting to this scene from the morning after Ursa ‘dissapeared’, but from Ozai perspective.
I always thought this scene illustrated Ozai did in his heart of hearts, love Ursa. But i also think Ozai was in denial about this, because he told himself lies like love being for fools. So in the version of himself that Ozai likes to think of himself as. The decision to “trade” his wife for the throne was the easiest decision of his life. But i think with Ursa truly gone he now he to struggle (and ultimately fail) to reckon with the truth the he perhaps loved Ursa more than he loved power.
I think Ozai’s silence when Zuko asks him where Ursa is, is quite telling. I also think the fountain statue Ozai stares at is quite telling. If we think of the ball the dragon holds with its paw as a globe, than perhaps we can liken the dragon to Ozai himself.
If we interpret it this way then Ozai we see looking at himself having all the power in the world at his finger tips and he doesn’t look happy about it.

On my artwork itself. Can you tell i have barely drawn a background ever? I am very happy with the face though. Fun fact: i drew this after i did most of my tyzula week submissions, so when those come along you can probably see me progressing from those to this.

Based on the scene where Zuko asks Ozai about where Ursa is during "Zuko Alone". Ozai is sad and looks to his left. In front of him is a statue of a dragon holding a globe of the avatar world in its hands. The Eastern portion of the Earth Kingdom is facing the viewer, implying the Fire Nation is facing Ozai. Zuko is standing far behind on Ozai's right. He asks: "Where is she?" On Ozai's left we see a traditional Fire Nation tower standing far behind him. Bottom left it reads: Urzaiweek day 3: Bittersweet BrowserET
