Polish electric locomotive created in 1954 by German (ex-GDR) LEW Hennigsdorf. In the 1950s, Poland needed electric locomotives to transport freight trains on electrified railway lines. Poland decided to produce locomotives in the GDR at the LEW plant in Henningsdorf. Design work lasted from 1952 to 1954, when the first prototype was built. Initially designed under the name E200, later renamed E04 and in 1960 to EU04. Initially, they operated bus connections between Warsaw and Gliwice. Despite this, the first locomotive was withdrawn in 1965, and the last one only in 1983. Only one locomotive of this series has survived to this day. Interestingly, the LEW plant also produced the EU20, a locomotive similar to the EU04.
