Warspite has been a warship seven times one time after the other already, and to this day, she may be reincarnated on her ninth or tenth lifetime as a warship. Refining the naval art of war with each life. She accumulated a lot of experience and some wisdom through these lifetimes, but it doesn't mean that she is done learning: as Warspite, she was constantly tied between said wisdom and a very impatient temperament. She judged people according to her sometimes really high standards and some, like her sister Malaya, were the bane of her existence. But others, like Arkansas and Texas, were ships that she held in high respect.
The warpaint isn't something she wears all the time, only when going into battle, or on her last voyage, which ended mysteriously... did she do it herself, or was it simply her time?
