One more Royal Maids post before I get back to work on my Prince of Wales double set.
I like to experiment with different styles, including more 'realistic' checkpoints (in this case, CyberRealistic Pony and Realism by Stable Yogi). No one style (or combination of styles) works great for every character, and this is even more true when portraying anime-style characters in a more 'photorealistic' style they were never really meant to be in. Here, I played around with mara_123's new models for these ladies, and found that Gloucester worked better in this style than Newcastle -- and Curacao didn't work very well at all. One curious thing I noticed was that these checkpoints kept taking away Newcastle's and Curacao's bangs (but not Gloucester's) and giving them centre parts. Also, I need to keep their mouths closed, because some of the teeth were looking pretty cursed.
Like I said, no one style works best for every character or every situation. For instance, the art style I've used in these and today's other Royal Maids posts is a style mix I really like for portraits, but it doesn't do so well when 'zoomed out' to full body shots, and it often struggles with NSFW poses. The style mix I used for the Intrepid and North Carolina sets, on the other hand, is a better all-purpose style, but it works better for more mature characters than it does for younger ones (18-21 yo).
So, I keep tinkering with styles and models. Partly, this is because I'm a natural-born tinkerer (I'm the same way when I write, whether it be fan-fiction or professionally). But I'm also trying not to produce images that look just like a billion other images out there. I want there to be at least something a little unique about the images I post here -- a little something that keeps you coming back for more. The whole reason I started posting on Pixiv (after years of just admiring other people's content) was that I wanted to share the kinds of fan art I really like -- the kinds I wasn't seeing enough of on this and other platforms. The fact that, after about 9 weeks of posting, I have well over 400 followers and my images have been bookmarked over 5,000 times tells me that other people want to see those kinds of images too. I want to respect that, and provide you with interesting and enjoyable good quality images, if I can. I'm not under any illusions that I'm taking the internet by storm, but some of you have been very encouraging and supportive during my short time as an AI art creator, and I want to acknowledge that and show my appreciation. Thank you!
