But yeah. North Dakota. She didn't live to see WWII, but still had a place. Some of the girls who made it to WWII knew her, even briefly, but most importantly, she was, for a short time, Utah's partner after Nevada suggested they break things off, officially because of being deployed in different fleets... but actually to have a thing with Arizona. Meanwhile Wyoming paired ND up with Utah. It could've been a very sweet relationship, and Dakota herself is a beauty inside and out, but sadly, it wasn't it for Utah. She felt genuinely bad about leaving Dakota, but had to, because at the end of the day, she was in love with someone else.
It may be surprising to learn that Dakota herself never found a proper partner despite her qualities. She had those little affairs but nothing that stayed, and her sister Delaware's shitty demeanour was possibly a contributor. She also had a heart condition that made her unsuitable for more military use, and for this reason, in part, spent her life as a training ship. A bittersweet one she was...
