Cherry Miyawaki

Glee-chan

Miyawaki Sakura is one of the most interesting idols in history. At around 14, she debuted as a Japanese idol in the famous girl group HKT48/AKB48. For around seven years she was a pretty popular idol in Japan. While still in this group, she (and several other members) went over to South Korea to participate in idol competition program called Produce 48 where she ranked second place. Thus the hugely successful (but temporary) K-Pop girl group IZ*ONE was formed. Once this was over, Sakura also stepped down from her J-Pop group as well, wanting to focus more on K-Pop. After some time she then re-re-debuted in LE SSERAFIM.

That's just the quick career summery of the 13 years she's been active. I've blazed passed her being an actress, a gravure model, a radio DJ, brand ambassador, a gaming streamer, a YouTuber, how she knits her own clothes, and oh yeah, the subject of this picture: a professional wrestler.

She was in a TV movie called Tofu Pro-Wrestling with her fellow J-Pop members, as pro-wrestlers. To promote the thing, she actually trained and eventually competed in a real tag team match. Now, it was very basic stuff, as the idols worked with actual wrestlers, but Sakura took bumps, knew how to sell injuries, and even performed a diving spot off the top rope. The audience in attendance knew what they were getting and were pretty forgiving, but quite honestly, for having very little time to prepare she and the other idols in the ring wrestled better than most 90s women's wrestling. So I'm calling it. Sakura was once a real professional wrestler. Hey, if David Flair can be called one, so can Sakura!
