The Sagittarian Federation (射手座連邦), also known as Federal Union of Carina-Sagittarius, is an interstellar federation made up of six spacefaring species based in the Carina-Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. After the Great Calamity that ended the ancient human-alien interstellar civilization thousands of years ago, numerous human lost colonies of the Carina-Sagittarius region have made first contact with new spacefaring alien civilizations. From 6th Century to 7th Century PEC*, these groups have formed alliances through trade and
cultural exchange. The rise of the Solarian Galactic Empire in late 9th Century PEC posed a united threat to these new merchant republics, motivating the formation of mutual defense pact between these states and leading to the foundation of the Sagittarian Federation.
Founded in 920 PEC, the Federation’s cornerstone republican and democratic ideologies are built on the Telissism ideology, named after one of the Federation’s Founding Fathers, Aurion Telis, a Zasshian statesman, philosopher and the Federation’s 1st President. At its core, Telissism’s Three Principles of Democracy comprised of Sovereighty, Liberty and Equality, outlining the people’s rights to autonomy, freedom and welfare in Telis’s egalitarian and utopian vision. These principles would be further developed by Telis’s human successor and best friend, Elias Drake, shaping the Federation’s democratic governance and its republican values in the present day.
A centralized democracy with a unified military structure, the Federation is governed by a ruling Council comprises of representatives from its member’s colonies. Every five years, the Federal Council elects a President to serve as its Chief Executive to discuss, amend and adopt federal laws, and to manages the Federation’s economy and interstellar relations.
