jumping on trend train once in a while with Russian Miku
her clothes are based on the XIX century traditional Russian clothes from Tverskaya guberniya (because, well, as it usually goes, clothes is something very regional)
I went once to a museum featuring traditional clothes and in a way it was very humbling: the popular opinion is that people in the past wore bleak drab clothes, but no, they were still people, and they liked their pretty clothes, too, no matter if poor or filthy rich
two clothes items left the most impression on me: one was a very ornate (and I think bridal) kokoshnik with amazing gemstone handiwork; and the second was a dowry white handkerchief with red swastika pattern where a single one was "printed" (using a loom, naturally) incorrectly for some reason: and on a wall full of pristine pretty dowry items this one felt the most human of sorts
Russians liking red is not just a meme, too: traditionally, red was considered the most "pretty" color, and it was even the go to color for bridal dresses
I would also love to portray Miku in full kokoshnik mode, but I wanted to draw her in something more simple and kokoshnik was ill-suitable because for the most part (again, regional exceptions) it was the headdress for married women, and that would mean a requirement to hide hair; only unmarried girls would let their hair to be seen, and even then it would be in a braid
