Shelby was named after her dad’s dream car. Growing up, she always worked with her father on cars. They would buy old cars, fix them up, and sell them to make money to buy his dream cars. This inspired her to pursue a vocational education in the automotive industry. Despite her parents urging her to follow a more traditional educational route, she stayed true to her passion for becoming a mechanic. However, tragedy struck the day after her graduation from her technical course—her dad passed away. Before his death, he had been working on another vehicle, a gift for Shelby, but he left it unfinished. This devastated her, as she felt guilty, believing she was responsible for his exhaustion. To cope with her trauma, she discovered she had a natural talent for boxing. Used to being in male-dominated environments from her time as an auto mechanic, she quickly adapted to the sport. She then discovered the GFBC, which presented a great opportunity to earn money to support her dreams of building an automotive shop, hiring a diverse crew, and buying her dream cars—things her dad could never achieve.
