MayruneI always considered the idea, that since Alia was a scientist originally, she wasn't the most skilled with the basics of being a navigator. So, she would reach out to someone who was skilled, Iris. As Iris appeared in Xtreme as a Navigator back then, then that meant she was a Maverick Hunter Navigator for a time prior to the Repliforce Incident. So, after the issues with Gate, Alia would offer to become a navigator with her knowledge. Then, Iris would help train her prior to the Repliforce Incident.
Of course, that's all just a thought. It's not canon, after all.
