"Girls being Girls" is a representation of frivolous and fun little things commonly associated with girlhood. This series of original illustrations rebels against the belief that strong women should be only represented as cool, independent, confident and intimidating, feeding into the misconception that "femininity" and softness are a weakness. The girls are portrayed in a series of 5 artworks on Japanese shikishi boards, performing stereotypical actions like putting make up on, shopping for new accessories and caving into sweet treats. It’s a celebration of girlhood in 360°, encouraging the freedom of women’s expression regardless of how it’s perceived by the world.
“Whether you’re girly, tomboy, soft, harsh, colorful, grunge, extrovert, confident or shy: that does not define your strength. No woman should feel like she isn’t worthy of being one.”
These artworks were inspired by 90s anime of magical girls, who fought the evil and injustice in skirts and sparkles, proving the world that girlhood is an umbrella and all women are strong and courageous!
