カツウ・無理I just wanted to make a shitpost (adjacent drawing) but damn, I really be needing two whole weeks to do it. Probably because I decided to make actual lineart instead of just using a sketch. I don't trust myself to draw non-squiggly lines so I used the curve tool, I just handled it using a tablet for the first time instead of a mouse. I did not extend this courtesy towards the background, which is one of the reasons I decided to give it some blur for the final. composition.
Context: Discussion about how good or bad Wally is as a character plus his in-game encounters to some extent. Personally I couldn't even remember him from when I first played Sapphire (though I didn't remember Cynthia from playing Pearl either) and when prepping my sketch file with reference images I found a video of all Wally encounters in Emerald and... I found it funny that you only interact with him twice at the beginning of the game and then at the end in Victory Road, anything inbetween is just the player repeatedly going to his house in petalburg/verdanturf and talking to his relatives who drop feed you info about Wally's progress over the course of the game I guess. In the original games it kinda works having him in victory road as just another trainer (you just happen to have a bit more backstory to him if you look into, but the winstrate guy has that too actually), but in oras they really changed the whole area to make him this super special final boss battle... which may or may not be uncalled for.
Ye so the bottom line was essentially that you could replace Wally just as well with the poke mart clerk in Oldale who gave you a potion because it's just. Random person from the beginning of the game coming back to battle.
So about that clerk. He calls himself the "Supremely Kindhearted Clerk". He just gives you a tour of two houses and a potion. That's it. Truly supreme.
