Irena is very quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. Kind of weird to say that considering I'm the one writing her but shut up that doesn't matter. Anyway. Irena is a genuinely kind and innocent soul. She became blind at an early age and was sheltered by her Father until she was in her late teens and was finally given his blessing to go out and travel the world with her very special crystal. Again, I have it written as working like the Visor from Halo ODST or the Us Army's ENVG-B prototypes. What's new to that lore, is the crystal presents the outlines of things to her in color by distance. Closer things are brighter greens, medium range things are yellows, oranges, and reds, further things are duller green. She actually can see a decent amount of the world around her thanks to her crystal, but again, it's mostly outlines and sharper features.
New lore dump time. Irena obviously can't read books. Braille isn't really a thing yet in the world. But she loves having others read to her. Mysteries are her favorite because she can think about solving them while she's listening. Sometimes she'll blurt out her thoughts in the middle and try to convince the person reading of who the culprit is. She loves operas. Music has always been her favorite medium and she keeps a small music box with her from when she was little. She loves going to plays too. She can see enough to get the gist of things and is enticed by the acting. One of her quirks is that she's scared of cats and dogs. They just look like big jagged blobs to her crystal. She had some bad experiences when she first got her crystal and has been working on getting over her fear. She can be okay around them if they're controlled, but if they come running up on her too fast she'll freak out.
During the Mid Game she will attend the hearing where Flaxen is stripped of her title, in Gracemeria. Emmeria's Capital. In an attempt to protect her true identity, because Estovakia and Emmeria still have tense relations, Irena offers the nickname Vega as a cover. I swear to god I completely forgot the AC6 Irena's callsign was Vega. I picked it because I love stars and the star Vega gives off a blueish light. I wanted her to have blue eyes because I love blue eyes and brown hair. It's a perfect combo you guys understand. Vega was also my character in a previous campaign that we never finished. I have a lot of history with the name so I wanted to use it again. I love using nostalgic things.
Back to Irena. I'm still writing her parts in for all the Mid Game events since she's going to be with them for a while. Honestly I'm having a blast with her. She really is a sweetheart and I hope the players love her as much as I do. Another fun fact is that Scin will have a very obvious soft spot for her from minute one after meeting her. Not out of pity or anything. It's a new side of Scin I want to explore more. She's dealt with plenty in her life. Maybe this is something she's familiar with. Who knows. Enjoy.
