The LPG-44 (later named RPG-1) was a relatively simple late 1944s Soviet anti-tank rocket launcher that was based upon extensive research on the US Bazooka and on captured German anti-tank weapons such as the Panzerschreck and Panzerfaust. The LPG-44 / RPG-1 looks especially similar to the late-war German design on the Panzerfaust 250 which was never produced but it looks to have inspired the LPG-44 /RPG-1.
The LPG-44 and RPG-1 are nearly identical launchers but the slightly later production RPG-1 can be distinguished by having wooden heat shields for the shoulder and potentially slightly differently shaped receiver.
The LPG-44 and RPG-1 both utilized the same ammunition the PG-1 rocket (aka PG-70 due to 70mm outer diameter)
The maximum effective range of the PG-1 rocket was about 75 meters and had the capability of penetrating 140mm of rolled homogenous armor so the weapon and its projectile were rather similar in capability as the German Panzerfausts 60 but weighed less than half of that at just 3.6 kilograms and not the 8.5 kilograms of the panzerfaust 60.
