soandnbJuly 2023. I've been anticipating the posting of this specific piece, as it's probably my favorite work I've done. This is another fine example of a "Scene-Referred Painting" which enables powerful lighting effects and sense of luminosity in a way that's rather quite easy to accomplish. It's similar to how 3D Renderers shade their scenes, except you do the lighting manually.
I debated whether I wanted to use a straight-up American Flag design for the shirt. Ceph society probably doesn't know what a long-dead country of 10,000 years is, so they probably just found in an old history book that a certain country celebrated its birth by blowing up explosives, they said "cool, explosions!" and just got an AI to tell them about it. To that effect, I based the shirt off of what I think an old AI would generate when asking for an American Flag.
