A bit of context.
Day of Dead is a Mexican and Central America celebration on November 2nd. The myth behind it is that it is believed that on November 1st and 2nd, our loved ones come from the afterlife to visit us during the night. As a response, we make them altars (?) where we put them their favorite stuff when they were alive such as food, beverages, alcohol, etc. So they can taste them once again.
La Catrina (Mexican ladies with their skeleton instead of body) are iconic representations, as a way to demonstrate the celebrations' friendly view towards Death; not as adoration but as a part of everyone's journey, and how there is life beyond the living land.
