On 10 August 1976, D+2, after repulsing the Warsaw Pact armored units that had broken through the defensive line, Panzer-Lehrbataillon 93 was ordered to launch a counter-attack against the Warsaw Pact forces and succeeded in expanding the results of the battle.
Major Sebastian Wittmann was wounded by enemy shelling on 9 August 1976, D+1, but instead of withdrawing from the battle, he insisted on fighting alongside his unit.
