Tarbosaurus

Dino Lesson

Tarbosaurus is a genus of tyrannosaurid dinosaur that flourished in Asia at the end of the Late Cretaceous Period. Fossils have been recovered in Mongolia and China. Some experts see this species as an Asian representative of the North American genus Tyrannosaurus. If not synonymous, the two are considered to be at least closely related genera. Like most known tyrannosaurids, Tarbosaurus was a large bipedal predator, measuring approximately 10 m in length, and up to 5 t in body mass. It had a unique locking mechanism in its jaw, equipped with about sixty large teeth, and the smallest forelimbs relative to body size of all tyrannosaurids.
