Hive Guard

Nyx Vestergaard

Species: Hexagonumconditor Flavum

Common name: Colonial Yellowstripe

Habitat: Great planes of the Green Sea

Diet: Herbivorous

Behavior: C. Yellowstripe live in tall hexagon shaped hives ruled by a queen. The average hive population exceeds 1000 individuals. Besides the queen, three classes make up the hive population, namely the Hive Guard, Hive Scouts and Hive Workers.
Hive Workers: Although their stature is smaller than the other classes, their list of duties is the longest. Workers build and repair the hive and its weapons, they carry for the larvae, collect and process nectar. They are however not allowed to leave the hive on their own and cannot themselves search for sources of nectar.
Hive Scouts: The scouts search for sources of nectar and escort the workers. Scouts are larger than the workers and equipped with a stinger for self-preservation and defending of nectar sources. Like the workers, the scouts are born with two organs in their torso for nectar storrage and processing. If there are not enough workers for nectar collecting, the scouts will collect nectar.
Hive Guard: The hive guard is made up of males. Their height doesn't exceed the average height of a scout, but their stinger is longer. Unlike the other classes, the guards are aggressive. It's not uncommon for guards to pick a fight with each other.

Altough the honey of C. Yellowstripe is considered a luxury good, entering a hive is not considered worth it. Some traders have managed to trade weaponry with hives for honey.
