The three Ainsworth task force light cruisers are all done!
The two fought from Pearl Harbor throughout the Pacific Campaign, especially in1943 in the Solomons. They both fought in the battle of Kula Gulf and Kolombangara, bearing heavy damage and survived.
During the battle of Kula Gulf, they had a funny but sad conversation. After Helena was hit by torpedoes, she quickly sank. But the flagship Honolulu didn't know about it.
"Can you see Jerry?"
"Believe she is on port quarter."
"Does Jerry seem all right?"
"Appears to be all right."
It wasn't until the end of the battle that Honolulu found the wreck of Helena's.
