Republic of Glancia does not actually have a navy in the strict sense, and all the "fleet" of the Republic is composed of aircraft/airship. So in fact, there is no essential difference between the marine and the airborne troops. When Republic of Glancia just completed the reunification, the right-wing political parties from north and the left-wing political parties from south formed a coalition government, but still retained their own military establishment. Later, in order to facilitate the unified command of the republic government, the troops that comes from the right-wing parties were called "Navy", and those come from left-wing troops were called "Air Force".
