"Fire. Air. Water. Earth.
Long ago, the Four Nations became one under the United Republic, until they were threatened by Kuvira, a powerful metalbender who seized control of the Earth Kingdom and crowned herself Empress.
Avatar Korra bravely stood against Kuvira and her army of metalbenders, but at the Battle of Zaofu, Kuvira slayed Korra, and the Metal Queen reigned victorious.
It's been twenty years since Avatar Korra perished. Dark spirits run rampant across the world, Kuvira rules with an iron fist, and her Metal Empire defiles the natural order, creating monsters of flesh and metal, spirit and machine.
The new Avatar has not appeared, and people fear the cycle has been broken. But in obscurity, a lone metalbending soldier in Kuvira's army discovers he can bend the four elements.
The Avatar lives, but he will not bring peace.
This time, he will bring only DOOM."
This is a concept I've been brainstorming for a while, an alternate-universe depiction of Doomguy as the metalbending Earth Avatar that arose after Korra was killed by Kuvira.
Doomguy wears a suit of armor forged out of a rare metal called "cold iron," hence his title the Iron Slayer.
Cold iron is a metal from European folklore that is described as antithetical to magical creatures, which for Avatar Doomguy would mean it protects him from spirits and their attacks. As a further point, cold iron cannot be bent by metalbenders because it is a spiritually inert substance. Though it would likely be reinforced to protect against electrical and thermal conduction.
I understand the world of Avatar is supposed to be representative of historical Asian cultures (even though Korra was explicitly early 20th-century American) so if "cold iron" is too European an element, the suit could instead be made of "bin steel," a legendary Asian metal sometimes known as "ice steel." Or Doomguy could even dive down into a long-lost sunken civilization to obtain the suit/metal, which would be implied to be European.
However, the Doomblade would be made of black meteor metal, which can be bent but would be safely secured to the Avatar's grip alone. And the shoulder launcher takes the form of a "handgonne" cannon depicted in the board game Avatar Legends.
The symbol on Doomguy's chest is the emblem of the Metal Clan, and the overall suit is based on a samurai-like Marauder ideation from Doom Eternal by Emerson Tung.
