Shin Megami tensei III was my first approach to the Atlus franchise and was like a punch in the guts, the game isn't for sure an entry level one.
I really enjoyed the dungeons of the game, most of them were very inspired and based on traps or fun mechanics and this overshadows the graphic repetition and the infernal rate of the encounters.
On the other hand I did not appreciate the fact that in the middle of the game the gameplay become very repetitive, the demons are always the same and too many monsters and bosses are based on physical immunity (and for a long time i have a physical based party).
The story is okay, and I enjoyed the multiple endings. On my first gameplay and without a guide I had the hardest ending of the game (I was lucky) and I was defeated by the secret boss (grrrr) but after a training session I managed to beat him.
I really enjoyed the secondary content, my favorite parts are Amala's labyrinth (except the second kalpa), Raidou ( I prefer him over Dante) and the Fiends (as can be seen from the illustration), that damned Matador ...
The game offers many interesting challenges, I really liked the mechanics of the four Oni, the Moirae Sisters (Cloto was a stable member of my party) and the Trumpeter.
I hated PuzzleBoy!
Overall the game was good, not one of my favourites but he have a lot of great ideas inside.
