Draco- Sonic's 30th Anniversary

S.W. Robby

Long ago at the age of 4, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the very first game that I've ever played. LONG before I got into other series like Mario, Kirby, Mega Man, etc. Then as soon as I got into Sonic 1, plus Sonic 3 and Knuckles, I have became a Sonic fan. Watched the TV shows, collected the toys (but sadly lost them in the move back then), even ran into some of the comics. As time went on, I dove into the Dreamcast Era with Sonic Adventure 2 as the first game I ever enjoyed...on the Gamecube. (I skipped out on the Dreamcast. 😅) When I played Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 on the Gamecube, I had a blast. Even the Advance Trilogy on the Gameboy Advance. Sonic Heroes, it had a lot of problems, but still fun. More fun than the very first game I ever owned...and regretted owning on the Gamecube before I traded it away for Viewtiful Joe. That game was... Shadow the Hedgehog. (Yeah.... 🤦‍♂️)

So as the series continue one, with new games from bad to mediocre, I kinda backed out from Sonic for a long while. Even after Sonic became a member of Smash Bros. Luckily, two games gave me hope. Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations. The only two games that made the Modern Sonic era great and back to form,...until the series went off it's rocker again. Especially with this train wreck, Sonic Boom. That's when 2 indie games came around. Freedom Planet and Spark the Electric Jester. Two games inspired by Sonic, but trying to be their own thing, and they're still going strong since then. Then, 2013 happened when I began to also make my series based on Sonic. That series is Draco the Dragon. A series inspired by two of my favorites, Sonic and Kirby, and still going strong for 9 years while still trying to find it's way to get into bigger projects. And as soon as Sonic Mania came into my hands, my inspiration and love for Sonic exploded! Getting me to think, 'Imagine how great Draco would be if the series did something like this.'. The more ideas I come up with for Draco, the more excited I am to want to bring the series to life after all those years of waiting and going through...other IRL and financial problems. But no worries, I'll get there one day. As long as I'm still practicing, doing new drawings and comics, trying to work up the money for bigger projects, like video games, animations, and such, and continue to have Sonic inspire me, I'll make it happen one day.

With all that said, thanks for everything, Sonic the Hedgehog; and Happy 30th Birthday! 🥳
