"Koropokkuru are a race spoken of in Ainu folklore. In their language, the name means “people under the butterbur leaves”. They appear as tiny humanoid beings, quick of foot and skilled at fishing and hunting. They inhabited the land before Ainu themselves, building their houses underground beneath butterbur plants, and would exchange food and items with them. They however disliked to be seen, and would carry out their trades late at night. One night, an overly curious young man waited in hiding and captured one of the traders, who turned out to be a beautiful female of their kind. This caused a diplomatic incident between Ainu and Koropokkuru, and the little creatures vanished, never to be found again."
